The Ugandan international had scored 16
goals in 14 league appearances for the Msimbazi club whilst the
Burundian had netted two less in three more appearances.
Came D-day at the National Stadium, Dar
es Salaam, it was Tambwe who prevailed as he scored in the 2-0 win to
hand Yanga a
double over rivals Simba.
Donald Ngoma had given the Jangwani
based club a lead in the 39th minute as Simba didn’t only end the first
half a goal down but also a man less after Abdi Banda was sent off in
the 25th minute for a foul on Ngoma.
Like he did in the first leg, Tambwe put
the icing on the cake with a decider in the 72nd minute as Godfrey
Mwashuiya bagged an assist. Kiiza was withdrawn in the 59th minute and
replaced with Danny Lyanga.
However, Tambwe said shortly after the
match that it was easy for them to win after their opponents were
reduced to ten men. “I think we deserved to win because we played really
well but it was not easy in the beginning as Simba were on the front
foot and played good football,” Tambwe said.
It means the race for golden boot will
be tight as the league heads its final few rounds. So far Kiiza is still
on the lead with 16 goals, while Tambwe, who scored 17 league goals two
seasons ago to win the golden boot at Simba, has now scored15 goals
this season.
Last season, Tambwe finished second in
the race for top scorer with 14 goals, two behind winner, Simon Msuva of
Yanga. The loss marked the maiden defeat since Ugandan legend Jackson
Mayanja took over the top coaching role at the club.
