Majaliwa made the pledge when speaking at Kisanga village soon after visiting the flood victims and inspected two structures that have been put as temporary shelter for the victims.
The premier was accompanied by Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, William Lukuvi, who is also the MP for Kalenga as well as Deputy State Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Labour, Employment, Youth and the Disabled, Abdallah Possi.
Early this month, a number of people living in the Pawaga valley, which is popular for paddy farming, were hard hit by floods.
“As government, we’re very concerned with the traumatic experiences you are going through. But I can assure you that we will continue to assist you until when things return to normal in the area,” the premier said.
He also urged the victims not to return to the valley because the area is only meant for paddy farming and not for residential purposes. Majaliwa challenged other people in the flood-prone area to relocate to safer places as well.
The premier commended the opposition party, Chadema, for quick response and providing humanitarian aid to the victims.
“There are people who think that being in the opposition is to oppose anything done by the government, but rather it is to push the government so that it brings development,” he said.
Minister Lukuvi on his part handed over 15m/-, 252 bed sheets and 250 pieces of corrugated iron sheets to the flood victims.
Dr Possy urged the regional authorities to allocate funds for the elderly and disabled who were affected by the floods. In response to the disaster, PPF Pensions Fund dished out 200 pieces of iron sheets and 200 bags of cement worth 6.6m/-.
