Dar es Salaam. Its now official. The Wawi MP, Mr
Hamad Rashid Mohammed, on Thursday received a membership card number 1
for the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) after the case with his
former Civic United Front (CUF) party was dropped.
According
to the party’s chairman, Said Miraaj, the card was kept for him for he
is among the founding members of the party that was established in 2012
when Mr Mohammed was kicked from CUF together with scores of other
members.
Last year, ADC announced that Mr Mohammed
declared his intention to run for the presidential post through the
party but his case with CUF made the matter pending until Wednesday when
the case was removed from the court.
Speaking after
receiving the card, Mr Mohammed said he has not created enemies from his
former party and promised to collaborate with other parties in order to
maintain peace and order of the country.
“Because
without peace we can never have development, I have joined ADC because I
believe it is a party that stands for the welfare of the citizens
first,” he said.
In his speech the party’s chairman Mr
Miraaj said that ADC is willing to join the union of any other parties
which stands for people’s interests before other things.
“Our
doors are open, but we would like the alliance that does not battle
over constituencies, leadership positions or subsidies we are ready to
sacrifice our positions as long as we stand as one for the people,” said
Mr Miraaj.
Earlier, he used his speech to ask the
National Electoral Commission (NEC) to consider extending voters
registration exercise in Dar es Salaam following the problems emerging
which he said delays the process.
On the other hand,
the party’s deputy secretary, Doyo Hassan expressed the fear over the
existence of forged voters ID saying that lacking crucial information
about the date of registration will lead to other people fake the cards.
“I
have my card with me but it does not show when it was registered, this
bring fear to emerge the fake ID’s to be used during the voting process,
I wonder why NEC did not put this important information as it is in the
former voters ID,” he asked
