Dar es Salaam. Five people are admitted to Muhimbili National Hospital with serious knife wounds after an unidentified man stabbed them inside a minibus (daladala) at Magomeni in Kinondoni District.
The attacker soon overpowered, disarmed and beaten to death by other passengers. The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 7pm in the evening, as the daladala was being driven from the the city centre to Mawasiliano bus terminal at Ubungo.
The Kinondoni regional police commander, Mr Camillius Wambura, confirmed the incident but decried mob justice, saying that it was a crime for people to take the law into their own hands.
He told The Citizen that police would investigate the whole incident as reports of the attack continued to spread on social media platforms until yesterday.
“We are trying to investigate the whole scenario and we will give a full report,” said Mr Wambura.
Narrating the ordeal, an eyewitness told reporters that the attacker entered the daladala just like any other passenger and took the backseat. No one knew that there was an impending problem.
Pandemonium started after the man started exchanging words with one of the passengers. The passenger was stabbed on his stomach as he traded words with the attacker.
The driver quickly stopped the bus as other passengers tried to intervene and others escaping from the minibus. However, it was too late as the knife-wielding man had already stabbed about four other passengers in the same bus.
The witness said that one woman reportedly took courage and held the attacker’s knife as an angry mob descended on the man like bees, beating him to death. His identity remains unknown as was his motive.
