A British helicopter pilot has been shot dead by elephant poachers in Tanzania, the conservation charity for which he was working has said.
The Friedkin Conservation Fund said Roger Gower had been tracking poachers on Friday in the Maswa Game Reserve when they fired on his helicopter.
One of his colleagues said he had been shot as he flew near the carcass of one of three elephants killed by poachers.
Charity founder Dan Friedkin said the organisation had lost "a dear friend".
The Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a UK national in Tanzania and said it was providing assistance to the family.

'Great pilot'

Pratik Patel, of the Friedkin Conservation Fund, said Mr Gower had been approaching the last of three elephants killed by poachers when he was shot.
He paid tribute to "a great guy, a great friend, a great pilot" who he said had loved working with Tanzania's wildlife.
Mr Patel said Mr Gower's main role had been flying people between the different camps on the reserve where he worked, but he had also flown daily patrols to support ground staff in their work against poachers.

Zitto Kabwe (MP-Kigoma Urban) moves motion to

Dodoma. A constitutional wrangle ensued in Parliament yesterday over the tabling of the second National Five-Year Development Plan, with the Opposition accusing government of breaking House  regulations by attempting to bulldoze a controversial motion.
The commotion caused House business for the day to be postponed in a continuation of drama in Parliament this week.
Yesterday’s uproar began after Finance and Economic Planning Minister Phillip Mpango tabled a framework of the second five-year development plan, and not the plan itself.
In response, opposition MPs urged the presiding chairman, Mr Andrew Chenge, to withdraw the minister’s motion arguing that it was a breach of not only the Constitution, but also House regulations.

Sanjida in her home village
When Sanjida left home to study, she met the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. The only problem - her partner was another woman, and same-sex marriage is not accepted in Bangladesh. Now, instead of finding happiness, she's facing criminal charges, accused of abduction.
In January 2013, Sanjida, a 20-year-old Bengali Muslim woman travelled from her village in south-western Bangladesh to a small town, to continue her studies. Her father, a schoolteacher, had chosen to send his cleverest child to college so she could help lift the family out of hardship.
The town of Pirojpur, where Sanjida moved to study Bengali literature, resounds with rickshaw bells, the Muslim call to prayer and Hindu temple hymns.
Sanjida heard of a room for rent in the family home of a Hindu potato seller, Krishnokanto. Impressed by Sanjida's studiousness and "good character", he asked her to help his youngest daughter, Puja, with her studies.

Though Krishnokanto's family liked her, they found her openness and the way she dressed in jeans and T-shirts a little odd for a young woman from such a traditional village.
In April 2013, during the Bengali New Year festival, Sanjida was in charge of taking a group of girls to the fair. When it was time to leave, she went into 16-year-old Puja's room.
"She was brushing her hair in front of a fan. She asked me to sit on the bed. Her back was turned toward me," Sanjida remembers.
"She was wearing an olive green blouse and petticoat. The back of the blouse had two strings that were hanging loose. At that instant, I fell in love with her."
To start with, Sanjida kept her feelings to herself. But later on that day something happened that convinced her Puja had similar feelings for her.
